LUKOIL and INPEX enters 2nd phase of Eridu exploration with Iraqi partners

Exploration continues at the Eridu oilfield in southern Iraq as construction of well pads for exploratory wells Eridu 4, 6 and 7 began this May with contractor Sima Baghdad. Eridu is part of Block 10 project in the area.
LUKOIL and INPEX initially discovered the Eridu oilfield in February 2017 after years of demining and 2D seismic testing that stretched over 2000 kilometers; in the end, three exploration wells proved the field’s existence.
In February of this year, partners began 2D and 3D seismic works at Eridu. They are being carried out by Iraq’s state-owned Oil Exploration Company (OEC) and involve areas of 3,500 square kilometers of 2D testing and a further 727 square kilometers in 3D.
The recoverable reserves of Eridu are estimated at 343 million tons, which are equivalent to over 2.4 billion barrels of oil. The discovery gave LUKOIL and INPEX an opportunity to extend its contract area by 140 square kilometers and its exploration timeframe up to 2021.Related news
