LUKOIL commissions new well pad at West Qurna-2 field

LUKOIL commissioned a new well pad M11/1A at the West Qurna-2 oil field in Iraq. Production rate of the first two wells of the new well pad reached 4.7-4.8 kbpd, which fully corresponds to preliminary forecasts. The wells are 2.7-2.9 thousand meters deep. By the end of August, it is planned to commission six more wells previously drilled on the pad. The expected cumulative production of well pad M11/1A wells is 36 kbpd, which enables to maintain oil production from Mishrif formation as high as 400 kbpd. For the license period until 2035, the pad is planned to yield a total of 14 million tons of oil.

Development and Production Service Contract for the West Qurna-2 field was signed in 2010. Contract validity period is 25 years. The first oil of West Qurna-2 was produced in March 2014. In April 2018, LUKOIL and Basra Oil Company signed West Qurna-2 Field Development Plan, which provides for oil production “plateau” of 800,000 barrels a day. According to the document, 2020 production level will amount to 480 thousand barrels a day to become in 2025 as high as 800 thousand barrels a day.
