On June 27, delegation of Iraqi security forces headed by chief of the Basra Operations Command, lieutenant-general Qassim Nazal al-Maliki, visited the West Qurna-2 oilfield.

The delegation met Managing Director of LUKOIL Mid-East Limited (LMEL) Egor Zubarev. LMEL Head of Security Vissarion Goreev and BOC Head of WQ-2 facilities protection Asaad Najem also attended the meeting.
Mr. Zubarev expressed his appreciation to general al-Maliki and other delegation members for supporting continues and secure operations at the field during coronavirus pandemic. The parties agreed that existing cooperation between LMEL and Iraqi security forces is highly efficient and enough to ensure protection for the West Qurna-2 personnel and facilities.
It was emphasized at the meeting that oil and gas operations should continue without interruptions under all circumstances, including ongoing fight with the spread of coronavirus infection. LMEL Managing Director reaffirmed the Company's commitment to secure jobs for local staff, despite current oil production cuts made in accordance with OPEC agreement.
The parties indicated their intention to continue regular consultations regarding security protection of personnel and facilities at the West Qurna-2 oilfield.
