On April 20, Abu Dhabi SPE section held a virtual meeting for the first time in its history. The topic - “Probabilistic Reservoir Modeling as a Key Success Factor for Decision Making” - was presented by LUKOIL’s employee – regional director for SPE Russia and Caspian in 2020 Ignatiy Volnov.

In his presentation, Mr. Volnov, a Senior reservoir engineering adviser at TengizChevroil and former Head of Reservoir Modelling Department at LUKOIL Uzbekistan, pointed the necessity of using appropriate approach for each field development stage. He described probabilistic analysis as a useful tool within project-based approach for making decisions regarding transition to the next stage of field development.

The materials for the presentation were sourced from the projects implemented in Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and proved useful for assessing complex reservoir conditions. The author highlighted the importance of deep understanding of the reservoir properties and geological issues as well as clear vision of the project management and criteria for the stage shifting.

The report was warmly welcomed by the members of Abu Dhabi SPE regional section. According to Mr. Maged Mabrook, Manager of the Enhanced Oil Recovery Deployment Department of ADNOC, the session turned to be interesting and valuable, and the presentation rose a keen response from the members of Abu Dhabi SPE regional section. Mr. Mabrook expressed hope for further cooperation with Russia and Caspian SPE regional section.
