August 30, 2017. On the eve of Oilman’s Day a major delegation headed by Iraq’s Oil Minister, Mr. Jabbar Ali al-Luiebi, arrived in Moscow for a series of high-level talks. On August 31 the Minister participated in a meeting of LUKOIL’s board of directors and met with company president Vagit Alekperov and Russia’s Energy Minister, Mr. Alexander Novak. The negotiations with LUKOIL touched upon the company’s projects in Iraq and opportunities for future cooperation. The West Qurna-2 project received special attention, including plans to increase production, utilize oilwell gas and improve economic efficiency.
Mr. Alekperov informed Jabbar Ali al-Luiebi about the successful drilling of a third exploration well at Block 10. The subsequent wellbore tests, conducted at a depth of 1,956 meters, confirmed commercial deposits at the Eridu oil reservoir.
The Iraqi delegation visited LUKOIL’s company museum, attended a ceremony for employees receiving state, departmental and corporate awards and joined a reception celebrating Oilman’s Day. The following day Mr. Jabbar Ali al-Luiebi visited the world-renowned Gubkin State Oil & Gas University to meet with its rector, faculty and students and give an interview to the Rossiya 24 television network (see below).
